Quick updates: NYT story + DEP response to DHS

The New York Times published a story today on the proposed Tremont Township detention facility, and our March town hall is at the center of it.

At Tuesday's Tremont Township Supervisors meeting, we learned of DEP's March 24 response to DHS's request for modifications to the agency's administrative orders. (You can find copies of the administrative orders on our Docs page.)

In the letter, DEP's Northeast Regional Director Joseph Buczynski told DHS that it needs to provide all water and sewage engineering studies, as well as documentation to support ICE's finding of "No Detrimental Effect." Without those, DEP won't modify its orders, can't suspend the appeal period, and won't meet with ICE to discuss next steps. Buczynski's letter says that ICE's admission that the plans don't yet exist "appears to conflict with public statements about ICE's due diligence work."

We're still waiting to see which DHS engineer stamps the plans for this circus.
